The Saudi Osteoporosis Club (SOC) started 1986 by a group of researcher including nuclear medicine Physician, Endocrinologist, Nephrologist, etc. Single photon absorbtiometry was used and normal data for Saudi were established beside other researcher. 

In 1988 the first DXA machine was installed. The club was established 1990 and registered in the Medical College and King Saud University in 1996.

The SOC is an establishing member of IOF and a member of other societies.

Many issues of newsletter were distributed nationally and internationally. 
The SOC arranged for many lectures, social activities for female attend by Royal family and many of the eminent VIP Saudi women.

Brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, etc. were distributed free of charge to people interested in osteoporosis. Arabic fliers, pamphlets and booklets were distributed to SOC club members and non members. 

Many articles were published regarding normal data for Saudi from age 5 to 80 years old. Also, articles in osteoporosis among Saudi and osteomalacia which is very common in Saudi Arabia. The Aim of SOC is to educate the Physician and public about osteoporosis and osteomalacia by conducting seminars, exhibition, distributing pamphlets and booklets. 

We emphasized on 3 massage:

  1. Exercise

  2. Expose to sun

  3. Ensure consumption of dairy product

  4. Healthy food and avoid fast food and soft drinks

  5. Stop smoking.
